Sauvignon Blanc

There is probably no other grape variety with which we are as deeply rooted as with Sauvignon Blanc. It is a liaison whose passion for this grape is still as strong in the third generation as it was on the first day. This passion and signature is reflected in our wines and runs like a red thread from Territory wines to the STK Premier Cru and the STK Grand Cru.

“Signature wine” figuratively stands for “Tement being wrapped in bottles”.

Synonyms: characteristic / identity / distinctive mark / business card.

Born in 2023, the “Tement Garden” project has once again shown us how great Sauvignon Blanc can accompany vegetables. This has prompted us to stoke a special set of our “BEST OF” wines.

Sauvignon Blanc Kalk & Kreide 2023

This organic Gutswein belongs to the most important wines of our family winery.

It is a unique terroir mix of 55 Sauvignon blanc plots, mainly grown on coralline limestone soil. This creates an incomparable and unique wine with deep minerality.

Ried GRASSNITZBERG RIFF Sauvignon Blanc STK premier cru 2020

Single-vineyard Grassnitzberg was the first vineyard owned by family Tement and was planted in the early 50s. The old vines of the south south-east facing slopes grow on massive coralline limestone soil (16 mio year old coral reef ).

This Sauvignon impresses with deep mineral and citrus flavours, caper salt & black currant.

A lot of limestone spices are present which leave an eternally long taste.

May be drunk young, but we recommend 3-5 years bottle ageing. Long ageing potential.

Ried ZIEREGG Sauvignon Blanc GSTK grand cru 2020

Ried Zieregg belongs probably to one of the most famous vineyards in Austria. But for our family it is much more than an iconic flagship. It is the origin of the family history and a place of big emotion. Vineyard and family are deeply rooted in each other.

When Manfred had to take over the winery in 1976 after the sudden and tragic death of his father at the age of only 16, single vineyard Zieregg was still very small. Together with mother Edina a local “Buschenschank” (local inn) was run in order to be able to afford viticulture. In the 90s Manfred could reinvest all savings entirely in parcels on the Zieregg, which allowed the winery to grow. At the beginning of the 2000s, the vineyard Zieregg could be expanded to the high plateau at the foot of the Karmeliter Chapel (“Kapelle”). When Zieregg expanded so did the diversity in terms of soil type, exposure and microclimate.

Since 2005, Armin has been working hand in hand with father Manfred and Stefan has completed the “trio ” since 2010 and allows our family to evolve and to make fundamental decisions regarding organic farming and the puristic signature of our wines. One consequence of these new ideas was to separately vinify the individual plots in order to achieve an even more precise understanding of the multifaceted richness of our vineyards. Most famous example are the Zieregg plots or “parcels” as we call them. Today, a total of 18 plots are selectively cultivated and developed at our grand cru vineyard Zieregg.

Our Standards

More than 15 years ago we started taking the first steps towards organic farming. We are now in the phase to convert to biodynamics. A logical step for us and a beginning without end. Every year we learn something new, observe nature and get closer to it bit by bit. We see our business as a form of modern circular economy in which wine is part of an overall concept. Partnerships with horse and cattle farmers have just as much space here as the use of the company’s own forest for energy production. Wine as a way of life.
